Bio
Dr Wendy Sarkissian LFPIA is widely regarded as one of Australia’s most experienced social planners, facilitators and trainers. She is expert in housing, community engagement, social planning and professional ethics. She is also an author and educator and seeks spirited ways to nurture an engaged citizenry.
She has co-authored three award-winning books on community Engagement: Kitchen Table Sustainability (2009). SpeakOut (2009) and Creative Community Planning (2010). All are published by Earthscan/Routledge.
Wendy is also co-author of the award-winning classic text on housing design: Housing as if People Mattered (with Clare Cooper Marcus, 1986).
Originally educated in Arts and education, she holds a doctorate in environmental ethics (Murdoch University) and a Masters of Town Planning (Adelaide University).
She is a Life Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia.
Now retired, Wendy designed and managed complex community engagement processes in high-profile developments, as well as small rural communities.
She also is expert in evaluation and managed a large-scale post-occupancy evaluation of resident satisfaction with high-rise housing in Vancouver from 2007 to 2008.
Before her retirement, Wendy was Adjunct Associate Professor at the Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute, Adjunct Professor in the School of Sustainable Development, Bond University, and Adjunct Professor, the School of Community and Regional Planning, University of British Columbia.
